This time I have decided to write about my Patrons Club to thank all those who are part of it and to invite anyone who wants to share the illusion of living art closely, through my day to day, sharing the challenges and projects that I carry out.
I presented this Patrons Club on 29 June 2019, in my studio, with the illusion of offering something new to those who enjoy my works so that they could really acquire them in a special way. I'll tell you how it came about.
In my more than thirty years of career I have (like everyone else of an age) lots of professional anecdotes, an endless list of projects, dreams and hopes placed in each step taken in living my vocation. I was never afraid to present my work "behind closed doors", calling literally from scratch, without contacts, to those exhibition halls, companies or institutions to which I believe that art can contribute something more... I still do it and as you can imagine there are all kinds of responses: sometimes there is not even an answer, on the other hand, on other occasions emotional and intense collaborations arise that lead to a friendship that lasts over time. Life is like that.
For more than twenty-five years now, my decision to register as a freelance professional artist has also meant that I have learnt a lot and that the creativity to find a way forward is full of extra motivation. Every professional has countless challenges ahead of them in order to carry out their proposal, but it must be acknowledged that in the art world there is a little extra difficulty. Living a vocation like this and making it your way of life requires the artist to have extra enthusiasm and confidence when presenting their work, conveying the meaning and communicating the intangible values it brings. I only know one way of doing this: with transparency and honesty, making others participants in my passion and allowing them to freely connect with the sculpture or painting that makes them vibrate.
These are always difficult times for artists who want to make a living from their art, the bills are not paid with followers, "likes" or the number of visitors to an exhibition. Life also has these things that make us keep our feet on the ground with a large dose of reality, no matter how much of an artist you are. Like all professionals, we have to face the costs of materials, supplies, work for third parties, taxes and insurance.... In short, what can I tell you that you don't already know?
Well, I can tell you something that will perhaps make you realise how necessary art is in our daily lives, the meaning that we artists have for society and that, in spite of dedicating ourselves to a vocation that makes us happy, we have to deal with some extra obstacles. I always say that Art is medicine for the soul and for it to be effective it needs research, just like science and technology. Behind a work of art (literary, musical or plastic) there are hours of reflection, of the artist's own search to express what he needs to share and communicate to whoever approaches his work. Scientists seek to make this idea a reality, giving their best, studying incessantly and without looking at the clock, thinking about what this discovery can contribute to the development of society, such as an improvement in so many fields... Art and Science have many things in common, and like all vocations, they imply a total and passionate dedication by those who are conquered by it. This is how I live mine.
We all know that during an investigation and during the creative process, time is an absolute determinant. Time that may be unproductive in the short term, but that will give rise to new discoveries, to new works that move us. These are difficult times, in which creating is often seen as a personal whim, when in reality creating is a vital necessity... like breathing . During the time when I am preparing a new collection of sculptures or paintings, I also need to have income, and that is where patrons are fundamental for me. Each of my patrons becomes a valuable support so that I can create freely, with whom I can share the day to day, establishing a personal relationship that goes far beyond a commercial exchange between two parties.
This is how this very special Patrons Club was born, as a direct way of making it possible for those who enjoy my works to acquire them comfortably and, at the same time, to provide me with stability so that I can focus on creating new works. Each patron and sponsor makes a clear commitment to what Art brings to us and to society, each of them also makes my motto "Art for life" their own. Each patron gives me the encouragement to move forward and each one becomes an active part of the creative process, living with me new projects and challenges.
THANK YOU! To all those who have wanted to be part of this family and those who will come in the future.
