In the previous publication in this blog I wrote about an exciting project to bring an embrace of solidarity, empathy, comfort and hope to the whole world through Art and Dance. Today, just a couple of weeks later, that embrace has become essential.
At the height of the pandemic, which connected us with people from all over the planet in the same feeling of uncertainty, pain and distance from those we loved, this sculpture emerged as a reminder of that which gives meaning in the face of circumstances that harm us, that make us fall and despair. We could not imagine that after those terrible months of the pandemic, which is still going on, the unreasonable violence would come to hit us again.
Today more than ever I want to share that embrace that defines the best of us because, in the face of barbarism, solidarity is presented as a balm and hope. The outstretched hand and the welcoming of the other. We must be the silent embrace that lets us cry without consolation... until there are no tears left, the embrace that fills us with humanity in that silence with closed eyes and mutual embrace to start again once more.
Life gives us no respite, it has always been like that, every day we have the challenge of returning home with the mission of having been a little better than yesterday, whatever happens... Being embraced with a smile or a kind gesture, with respect and the commitment to be peace with those who are close to us, that is where it all begins ... Love and hate are inside each one of us, we cannot separate them, but we decide which one to keep for the journey of our life. Only love will make us feel whole, all that is good in us is the only thing worth while.... And there is so much!
A few years ago I created this other sculpture as a project for a public work that was never realised, it was not even selected for the exhibition of the proposals presented, but today I want to share it here as the image of what I feel at this moment: solidarity is what gives meaning to our difference, the setting in motion to help, to advance, to console, to not put labels and to show what we are capable of doing to help those who need our help. Action and welcome. Overcoming obstacles and giving the best we have in whatever way we can. Our solidarity and our embrace can be defined in a single word: We are.
We answer only to ourselves and knowing that we are that embrace will help us to stand up again and not let the madness that threatens us overcome us . Living has never been easy. There is no respite. Life goes on in spite of everything. Constant adaptation in the face of challenges. Giving ourselves to what makes this world a place worthy of our existence, from what we can offer to build a new generous opportunity, in my case from Art, with the dedication to share the emotion that connects me to the other, to feel our Humanity.
These are difficult times, very difficult times. I will continue to move forward together with those who make sensitivity their most powerful quality, bringing what I feel to contribute that look that allows us to recover hope in the human being, that gives us the strength we need, that allows us to be Humanity again.
Best wishes to all of you.
A hug!
